One Day | By Rasaq Malik Gbolahan

(For Love)

One day you’ll remember the kisses
On hazy streets
On nights when birds squeak
As they flutter wings to the music of lovers
Searching for where death is a feeble stake

One day you’ll remember the wind of love
On foggy roads
On nights when memories are frames
Carved to hold our portraits
As we stand, waiting for the sea to rise
Below our feet
For the sun to set in your eyes
For the moon to rise in your heart

One day you’ll remember the long embraces,
Talks, secrets peeled like onions and messages
Shared when the light of love floods our hearts

One day, Sweetheart,
You will remember the first poem
I render as I voyage in your tender heart.
