I’m in Love with a Church Boy | a poem by Oluwafemi Babasola

Church boys don’t flaunt
but his eyes flaunts the flaws
of the floor of my heart
and the sight of him buds my
heart with pyramidal beats

Church boys should be calm
but the coolness of his swag betrays him
The rasp of his voice exquisite to my lingering ears
tapping my eardrums with pitch perfect percussion

His stride, distinct from the evangelists’
but sails through my skin and corrects the lens
of my gaze to zoom in on his gazzeling hop

Church boys don’t touch
but the fervor of his touch is amplified by
my tanned skin the way the wink of his
brown eyes warms my lips

Church boys read the Bible
but he reads out mesmeric lines too
leaving me longing for his nectar oozing lips
that render me craving and helpless

And the gaze of his eyes
stuns my heart with lasting seizures
seizures cease recess
till my hands clutch him in the pew
