The Journey | a poem by Rahaman Toheeb Abiola

Last night the journey ended
But for another one to start
that is just the life we live as apples of Adam
we are remnants of faded moments
reincarnating itself into a new start
Last night the journey ended
though as if it won’t
and she left silence deep in me
with my heart down to the feet of Cupid
I became the slave of love
before the presence of the evening.

II

Hakimah fed me full with the nectar of love
with the beauty of her eyes, with ineffable dimples
heralding a limpid message of wandering smiles
her eyelids were testimonies of my lust—
the festering scar in the heart of a loverboy
She thrust my heart into pieces
with her simple sermon of Solomon
leaving the door of my heart open
for new notes of billowing thoughts
She fashioned another leeway of love
with the virgin stare of her beauteous face
leaving me on the soft palate of anxious memories
waiting to be scribbled somewhere in a diary of reminiscence
like jittery sperm inside the sack of a man’s testis
waiting for the day of escapism
down to the donjon of a woman’s genital.
